[ ANNUAL DUPONT FOOD DRIVE BREAKS RECORD ]

DuPont’s 16th annual food drive collected a record breaking amount of contributions—6,591 pounds and $170! On Saturday, May 11, a volunteer crew rounded up bags of non-perishable food donations from front porches, and volunteers and residents gathered at the DuPont Fire Station to load donations into the FISH Food Banks truck. All donations go directly to serving people in need at the Lakes Area FISH Food Bank, which assists DuPont families.

The DuPont food drive is one of the largest in support of FISH Food Banks. The 2012 food drive collected more than 5,000 pounds of food and personal toiletry items. Thanks to the generosity of DuPont residents, volunteers, and community and civic organizations, this year’s effort procured an astounding 30% more food. The Lakes Area FISH Food Bank serves nearly 100,000 individuals per year out of a very small footprint at the United Methodist Church at Lakewood. Donations are always needed and welcomed to serve the large number of clients. When Lakes Food Bank Coordinator Marcus Stoll learned of the DuPont donation total, he exclaimed, “Wow! That’s amazing!”

FISH extends sincere gratitude to all who worked tirelessly to make the food drive a success: organizers Terry and Jake Smith, DuPont Community Presbyterian Church, DuPont Lions Club and Brendan Keyport, Patriot Baseball League, DuPont Fire Department, and all supporters, volunteers and donors.

With your help, FISH will continue to provide food and services for individuals in need with compassion, dignity and respect. For every dollar donated, FISH can distribute seven dollars’ worth of food. For more information on FISH Food Banks, please call (253) 383-3164, or go to www.fishfoodbanks.org.
